    Canon A70 problem?

I have an A70, about a year old. The problem is the LCD screen is very dark. It is almost completely black unless I point the camera dirrectly at light. If I take a picture with the viewfinder the picture is exactly what the LCD screen looks like. This happened as we were using the camera. I also cannot view any of the pictures in the camera. I no the display is not completly out because it works to access the menu screen. It wasn't droped or anything. I can't find any setting to change or fix the problem. Any ideas????

    Johann,
Is it possible that you've gone into M (manual) mode and the shutter speed is fast and a small aperture (large number) been selected? Or has the Exposure compensation been adjusted to be -2? Does it do the same thing in fully automatic mode? It certainly sounds like some setting has been adjusted incorrectly.

    Johann,

as I have the same problem with my A70 (even worse: after some "dark" pictures the display stays completely black now), and in my case it's not in "M" mode, but in "P" (and all other modes), I would be interested in any solution you found.

I had this problem in december 2003, and the CCD was replaced by Canon. I had it again in september 2004, and the contacts (which ones?!) were cleaned by Canon. And here I am again... In the moment my dealer is asking Canon to take the camera back an give me another one. I hope they'll do so...

    Regards,
    Matthias

I had the same problem. I called tech support had the guy helped me fix it. First turn the camera off and switch to movie mode. Then take the batteries and the memory card out. Hold the power button down for 3 seconds. Put the batteries back in and turn the camera on. (the camera should be working at this point) . Then switch the camera to auto mode and hold the "menu" button down for about 15 seconds. A screen should ask you if you want to reset the defalt settings. Hit yes and you are done. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for your help - fortunately i got a new camera in exchange (Canon A95)
As a friend of mine continues with his A70, your help may be useful - he encountered first problems with a dark / black LCD some days ago; his camera has been sent to Canon now. Let's see what they can do...
