    Rebel lens choice?

I'm going to purchase the canon rebel Dslr. What would be the best lens choice?
    1.) The Canon 18-55 3.5-5.6--stock lens
    2.) Sigma 18-125 3.5-5.6
    3.) Sima combo --70-300DL macro/28-80 3.5-5.6

I'm new to digital photography and moving from a canon A1.

well....you can use sear's price match plus (if you're in the USA...) to get it cheaper...with the kit lens..
then there's a sigma 70-300mm APO lens (it's 200 dollars...might be the one you mentioned...just make sure its the APO...the other one isn't good..)

    hope this helps.

    Jim,
There are a lot of people that will say the kit lens is rubbish but there are more that will say it's good. I got my 300D with the kit lens and thought that if it's no good I'll trade up to the 17-40L. Well, after 8 months I still have the kit lens and find it works very well. I don't know much about the 70-300 Sigma lenses but I'm sure that in that same focal range there are good ones and really bad ones. As Vito says I think you'd be better off looking at the APO version.

Hi just thought id throw in my ten peneth, my 300d came with the Sigma 18-55 which produced some really nice results, especially compared to my Sigma 17-35 EX which on film was excellent but on digital was like shooting through the bottom of a pint glass. i got shut of it sharpish, my only gripe with the kit lens was its longevity it felt cheap and nasty, i didnt expect it to last long so i gat shut of it and just recieved a 17-85 EFS IS through the post today, very nice it is too.
all i can say is wow

Asked myself exactly the same question and finally went for the stock lens (18-55mm), really good value for money + a Canon EF 300mm USM (approx 300 dollars) that makes an excellent add-on to the wide angle stock lens. I'm extremely pleased with this middle range combination! I don't know about the Sigma, but check out for reviews on the web before buying. The canon is more expensive but compatibility is assured...

Just in case, exact reference for the Canon tele zoom I purcahsed is EF 75-300mm 4.5-5.6 USM. Unfortunately not found in the list proposed by photosbyVP. But all reviews I read were excellent.
