What gear are we all using?
I'm interested to see what Canon gear most of you are using and how many are using DSLRs. I recently graudated to a 300D from a Sony DSCS85 and Canon 300Vand love the extra creativity it provides, however am finding it a lot harder to take "keepers" than when I had the Sony. I'm also learning a lot about Photoshop due to the DSLR pics being softer out of the box.
I'd be interested to hear your stories.

Well, I'm new here, haven't been lurking long, so don't know if this is mainly for users of fancy SLR and DSLR stuff, or P&S cameras as well, but FWIW, I Put in my order for a Canon A95 this morning, and I can't wait to rip open the box tomorrow morning when it arrives and start playing
(It's my first Digital camera, I've always wanted to learn more about photography, but can't afford loads of film and developing to play!)
I Chose the Canon over a Sony (Shop I work for sells primarily Sony) because the images on most review sites seemed to have better colour balance (Sony's have a very vibrant green that I didn't like) and word on other forums I frequent (Non photography ones) was that Canon was the way to go... Hope I've made the right choice!

Welcome, no it's definitely not for DSLR owners, I'm sure most people here are using P&S's or prosumer digicams. Congrats on your A95 and I look forward to seeing your pics in your gallery. Let me know what you think of it as I'm thinking of getting the A95 to carry around when I don't want to take my 300D kit with me.
I know what you mean about the "greens" with the Sony. My Sony S85 always had very bright saturated colours, sometimes to the point of looking fake.

We'll see. I Hafta say that I'm not normally a very creative person, so well composed, 'interesting' pictures is gonna be a challenge. But it's something I want to learn, so we'll see what happens
Well, I'm no professional photographer, so I can't really comment on the picture quality, and there's plenty of sample pics about, but in the few hours playtime I've had with it, it seems quite good. It certianly feels nice and solid to grip. Some reviews mention that the CF card door seems flimsy, and It does seem to shift a little whilst gripping the camera, but not enough to cause a problem. I was amazed at this TFT screen - Very sharp and nice to look at compared to any other digicam I've seen! Remember though, I've only really played with cheapo digitals before, up to about the Sony P73 level. This screen seemed very clear and sharp compared to them.Let me know what you think of it as I'm thinking of getting the A95 to carry around when I don't want to take my 300D kit with me.
<shrug> What other sort of details are you after? I'll tell you what I can, but that might not be much! I'm willing to post some sample shots if you like, but they possibly wont be as useful as some of the review sites.
Which, funnily enough, when I pointed it out to the boss, he seemed to think was a GOOD feature of the sony's... Each to their own I spoze.I know what you mean about the "greens" with the Sony. Using a Kodak DX6490 here, had it about 6 months now. Want to pick up a wide angle lens but was unemployed for a few months and just started working again - fortunately at a camera store, so I get a staff discount

Edit: *woops* Got here from clicking the active thread thingy on the left, didn't realise it was in the Canon forum
Sorry folks!

Thepup,
I don't need anything specific, I'll just keep an eye out for your photos in your gallery. I'm not concerned too much with the technical aspects of camera testing, just mainly what looks good to the eye.

Well, I've put some up, just don't expect works of art like your shots! Some of them are stunning! (Love the bird of Paradise! Dad has lots of orchids, some quite small and delicate - I'm just itching to get a crack at them when they are in flower!)I don't need anything specific, I'll just keep an eye out for your photos in your gallery.Last edited by ThePup; Oct 20th, 2004 at 12:22 AM.

Canon gear
Hi Paul,
I just upgraded to the Canon 1D MK II a few months ago. I was using the 300D prior to that for about a year. I still have the 300D as a backup to the MK II.
It's just a hobby for me but I have shot a few weddings. That helps pay for the camera equipment.
I also have the following equipment to go with my cameras.
550EX Canon Flash
420EX Canon Flash
Canon 24-70 "L" series lens
Canon 28-135 IS lens
Sigma 28-70 EX series lens (for sale)
Sigma 70-200 EX series lens
Thanks,
Jim
