    moon sized problem

I have EOS 300D and am using a Tamron 70-300mm lens. The question is that i can not get a detailed picture of the full moon. I have been taking pictures under the manual setting and at all different exposures, but the glow of the moon hazes out any detail. If you can help me at all please respond thank you

First off I would have to say that while the 300mm lens is fairly strong, the moon doesn't come a lot closer with it -- teleconverter maybe if not a mount for a scope. Second, following a rule from astronomy, the moon is much more interesting during the early and late phases due to the lower light and amount of detail on the edges. For a full moon I would cut back the light as much as possible -- speed up the shot. Essentially you are taking a picture of a lightbulb when shooting it full. I have tried with the 75-300 Canon lens and the D-Rebel and only come out with fair shots. Try the phases is my advice.

I too wanted to get some nice moon shots using my new Canon 75-300 IS lens. After much trial and error the best shot came out using 1/160 sec, F5.6 at iso 100, much faster than I thought would be required. I'll post it to my gallery soon if you're interested.
